The Work
Three separate drypoint etchings, printed from three individual plates onto a single sheet of paper, arranged vertically. The uppermost image shows a butterfly emerging from a torn, rock-like form; the centre a butterfly rendered in careful naturalistic detail against a plain ground; the lowest set within a geometric frame-within-a-frame, a small sun or moon rising behind it. Each is delicately hand-coloured in warm yellows, oranges, and ochres against fine blue-toned etched linework. Titled "3 Butterfly," signed and dated by the artist, March 21, 1980.

Provenance
I purchased this piece almost 20 years ago, in the early days of eBay, as part of a small bulk lot of three or four butterfly-themed etchings, all by the same artist. Some time later, after I'd listed a few similar pieces for sale online, I was contacted by a woman who identified herself as the artist's daughter — she'd come across the listings and asked how I'd come to own them.
