I found this one in an antique store and fell for it straight away — the birds caught mid-movement, that soft green haze through the trees.

I knew immediately it needed a new frame. I built it in my own take on a mid-century style: hand-finished oak with a hand-rubbed graphite finish, and a fabric border to create depth around the painting.
Richard Bogusz was born in Germany in 1947 and migrated to Australia with his family as a child, settling in rural Victoria. Largely self-taught by deliberate choice — he has spoken about wanting to paint freely, without the influence of formal training shaping his imagery — he began exhibiting professionally in 1971. The following decade brought numerous awards, prizes, and solo exhibitions, and by the late 1970s demand for his work meant he shifted toward select galleries rather than solo shows.
In 1986, Bogusz moved to Queensland, where he still lives and paints today. He's best known for his semi-abstract landscapes, often populated with birds rendered in his loose, atmospheric style — bringing a sense of narrative and quiet fantasy to familiar Australian bush and wetland scenes.
