The Work

This painting is deeply symbolic, representing our family of four with the four stingray, all painted in shades of blue. It captures love, connection, and a meaningful period in my life. Given that the marriage has ended, however, the piece no longer feels right for me to hold on to, even though it remains a beautiful and personal work. Selling it allows the artwork to be appreciated in a new context while honouring the story it represents.

Provenance

I commissioned Four Stingray from Georgina in 2019. We've known each other a long time, since working together at Fix-A-Frame. I wanted something that represented myself, my then husband, and our two children. Georgina is someone I deeply respect and admire, both as a friend and as an artist, so requesting this piece felt very personal from the start.

Framing

The piece is framed simply with a float frame — it doesn't need much else, because the artwork itself is bold and strong. The simplicity allows the painting's colour and composition to breathe without distraction.

About Georgina Hooper

Georgina Hooper is an Australian painter, educator, and arts researcher based on the Sunshine Coast. Her work draws deeply from Eastern artistic traditions, especially Chinese landscape painting, mindfulness, and philosophy. She incorporates calligraphic marks, repetition, rhythm, and meditative practice into her work, creating spaces that invite stillness, introspection, and a sense of the sublime. She has exhibited widely and is known for her ability to blend abstraction with elements drawn from nature and culture.
