Provenance

I found this etching on Facebook along with two other works by Arthur Boyd. My brother drove down to Sydney to collect them for me. Among those three, this one stood out — I kept it for myself because of how it spoke to me. It was framed specifically to pair with the David Boyd piece.

Framing

The piece is set in a large cassette frame, styled with earthy brown tones to harmonize with the sepia hues of the etching. The size and scale of the frame have been chosen to match, visually, the David Boyd piece beside it — so the two work as a pair.

About Arthur Boyd

Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd (1920–1999) was a major Australian painter, printmaker, potter, and member of the celebrated Boyd family of artists. He was born in Murrumbeena, Victoria, and learned his artistic foundations under the tutelage of family members and at night classes at the National Gallery School in Melbourne. Boyd’s career spanned painting, printmaking, and ceramics, and his etchings from the 1940s through to the 1980s are highly regarded. His work often explored universal themes — landscape, human emotion, myth, morality — with strong expressive and allegorical qualities.
