Provenance

This is a very early work of Barek's, one I bought directly from him at his very first exhibition — the same show that was also my very first exhibition when I opened ARTIS PURA. I loved the musical element of it, the way the notes seem to spiral and scatter with such freedom.

At the time I was newly in business and money was tight, but I'd always believed that if you're going to work alongside artists, you should put your money where your mouth is and actually buy their work. So I did.

About Barek

Barek (Ben Barek) is a Melbourne-based urban artist working across street murals, wheat-pasting, stickers, canvas, and sculptural installation, known for his distinctive, otherworldly characters. A resident artist at Melbourne's Blender Studios — one of Australia's most significant hubs for street and urban art — he works fluently across acrylics, ink, watercolour, and posca, and has held solo exhibitions including House of Ghosts, built around his signature whimsical ghost figures. Today his work sits in some of the country's most notable collections, and he is also recognised as one of Melbourne's leading street art tour guides, sharing the laneways and culture he's part of with visitors from around the world.
